The story behind Jewel Destiny Jewellery
Hi, I’m Cecilia and until a couple of years ago I was a workaholic, stressed maths teacher. Well, I decided enough was enough and moved to a little cottage by the sea in Aberdeenshire, to try to live a less hectic and overcomplicated life. This gave me the time and space to be able to do something totally different. I’ve always loved jewellery, and hated waste. So what could be better than creating something that fits in with both of these?
Do you know how many precious metals and gemstones are ripped from the Earth each year? The Carbon Footprint is huge. On top of that I worry about how many pieces of broken, tangled and generally unloved bits of jewellery end up in landfill, or are melted down as scrap.
So Jewel Destiny Jewellery was born, where I find forgotten treasures of mainly Sterling Silver Jewellery that have languished at the bottom of a drawer for years, perhaps tangled up with others, with lost parts, misshapen, blackened or tarnished. I change their destinies by restoring them back to beautiful, wearable pieces, ready to be treasured again. I detangle, repair, source missing parts, mix and match and spend hours cleaning and polishing, to bring them back to life again to make you sparkle, knowing that in my own tiny way I’m helping to save our planet just a little, to improve the destinies of our children and children’s children.
Many of my pieces are rather individual or totally unique, either because they are vintage from an era where mass production wasn’t a thing, or because I’ve adapted them, perhaps by matching a lone pendant to a chain necklace, repurposing an incomplete part to complement another piece, or sourcing replacements for pieces with missing parts from irreparable items.
Therefore a purchase of a piece of second-hand jewellery for yourself or as a gift from Jewel Destiny means that whilst it isn’t brand new or 100% flawless, it has its own story to tell, has been lovingly restored back to beautiful wearable condition and is far more sustainable and eco-friendly than buying new.
Jewel Destiny Jewellery: lovingly restored and handmade jewellery that’s destined to be loved by you.
